The University of Nevada’s College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources have been developing and testing different wine grapes to find the best varieties suited the desert climate. Some have adapted better than others, with some promising results. Come taste the fruits of there labor.

Fallon Area

Fallon is primarily an agricultural community. The principal crop is alfalfa. Fallon Heart O' Gold cantaloupes were once distributed throughout the nation, but are now mostly grown for local consumption. U.S. Route 50 is the main road through town. Fallon is one of the westernmost cities on the Loneliest Road in America, the stretch of Route 50 through Nevada famed for its remoteness. Eastbound travelers must go 110 miles to find the next town, Austin, Nevada.

Genoa Area

Genoa was first settled by Mormons from Utah, creating a fort on the Carson Pass trail between Sacramento and Utah. The town was the home to Nevada's first hotel, Another first for the state, the Genoa Bar, billed "Nevada's oldest thirst parlor", was patronized by Mark Twain, Teddy Roosevelt and Johnny Cash and was used in John Wayne and Clint Eastwood filmsThe village was also the set for the movie "Misery", starring Kathy Bates. The village doubled in size with buildings added and then removed after the filming.

Pahrump Area

Pahrump is in Nye County, Nevada, They reportedly chose the name for the valley which Pahrump is named after from the original indigenous name Pah-Rimpi, or "Water Rock," so named because of the abundant artesian wells in the valley. The town's motto is "Heart of the New Old West".
